Good idea good product

I just finished assembling a 2x4basics AnySize Bench 11200 and am very happy with it. The bench assembly took a little longer than I thought it would. I think I worked on it for about two hours. I wasn't counting on having to drill pilot holes for the dozens of screws (included) that had to be used putting the bench together. Nor did I figure on spending so much time figuring out how to best sink the screws into the underside of the boards. Don't worry about slanting the screws into the wood a bit. It is impossible to get a drill into a perfect position for making a 90 degree hole. Most of the screws do not show anyhow.



It was necessary to tip the bench over in order drill pilot holes and to get at the screws. I had to clamp the 2x4's to the plastic/composite ends to keep them from falling off or moving out of position. I would recommend using a couple of small carpentry clamps to hold things in place while putting the bench together.



I had the 2x4's sanded and painted prior to attaching them to the plastic/composite ends so that took a little time but probably not more than an additional hour. That probably saved time in the long run. Making this bench with the 2x4 basics kit is not a difficult project.



The 2x4 basics bench is solid and not all that heavy but it isn't going to blow over in a high wind. I am quite satisfied with how the bench came out and somewhat surprised at how substantial it is. I thought it might twist and perhaps wiggle side to side--nope it is a rock.



I am so pleased with this approach to building patio furniture that I will be recommending the product to friends.

Great price and style quality not high

For $99 it is a great deal BUT it came with a crack in the wood in the arm and splintered wood on the inside of both arms. The box looked like it had been drop kicked from the factory & the foam they used to pack it was so low in quality that it was frittering from the impact of the damage and "snowed" all over our front porch when opened. It seems reasonably sturdy to sit on and was not hard to assemble. It sits low without the cushion so keep that in mind if you plan to go without the cushion. I have had this on my deck for 3 years now... every spring a wash it down with clorox and it comes back to a beautiful

Almost perfect.

It took me only 30 minutes to assemble. It went together with no problems although the instructions were incomplete. 2 wooden dowels are used on each corner brace as well. Also I had to use a cordless drill/screwdriver for 4 of the 6 screws as I could not get them going by hand. There was a sticker on the seat to show you where the front was. The sticker was a pain to remove. On one of the pre-assembled ends the arm does not sit flush onto the front post. You can also feel an edge on top of each arm from sloppy sanding. However it is a very beautiful and sturdy bench. I love it in spite of the few flaws.More detail ...

I built a 17' by 12' bench with these brackets and the same composite material my deck is made out of. It is very sturdy and does not have much wobble. Sturdier than I thought.

I was a bit apprehensive about buying these brackets and thought that the method of anchoring them to the deck would result in a bench that would flex when I pushed back on it. I was wrong and the bench is much sturdier than I thought it would be.



I did end up putting two more screws in per bracket on the bottom near the front.



Overall these created a good looking easy to install bench. I highly recommend them. They are cheaper than buying redwood to build your own bench brackets.More detail ...

Good construction bad for shower

I bought this as a cheap solution for my wife to shave her legs in the shower. Bad for this application as the finish quickly starts to come off. I have since bought her an unfinished teak one from smithandhawken.com that works great. It was the cheapest best looking real teak one I could find at the time. We moved this one to our front porch and it is working out ok there. I think it would wear best in the house in a dry area.More detail ...

Nice but cheaper elsewhere

Just bought this exact same one (brand name dimensions model number) at Christmas Tree Shops for $49.99.



Beware: we returned the first one because it was moldy and it seemed they were all moldy! We waited a week and went back and opened another box we seemed to be in luck NO MOLD. Upon getting home we found a note that comes enclosed with the potters bench.... Says that there is a likely chance of mold and to clean it off with a combination of soap and water. So I guess expect some mold.



Its made well and has nice features like a drawer built in soil bucket and hooks on both sides.

Find Another Bench -- This Is a Piece of Junk

I recently purchased this for a summer house it arrived damaged (scratched) as the cardboard box was cheap made of thin cardboard and basically was falling apart upon delivery. It also arrived with bolts missing. In putting it together the bolts are so cheap that if you attempt to tighten them the threads strip. Despite tightening it as best as possible the bench is rickety and probably won't last the season. I emailed Amazon when it arrived scratched and damaged and missing some bolts they gave me a partial credit. I then emailed again when it was assembled and requested a full credit which they have given -- and that they should send someone to pick it up. Needless to say I would recommend NOT buying this piece of junk and likewise suggested that Amazon no longer offer it for sale. Love it!

I was a bit wary of ordering this without a photo -- but I'm so glad I went ahead and took the plunge! It's similar in design to the other Strathmore wood benches on Amazon -- horizontal slats across the back and seat with wood arms and legs. Assembly was simple and the delivery was fast. We plan on giving the bench a coat of water sealer before sitting it outside in order to protect the color (which is a very pretty brownish/red). The bench is comfortable without a cushion though you certainly could add one if you wanted. It's a "true" three-seater bench -- even if the three "seats" are big ones however I'd be hesitant to put three really large people on it as there is no center support brace on the bottom (I'd put the lightest person in the middle). All in all this seems to be a great bench and the price is fantastic especially considering that the shipping is free (or was when I got it). Not having to pick it up at a store and struggle to get it in and out of a car was wonderful.More detail ...

Great afternoon picnic table and benches project

I purchased 8 benches - 4 for our house and 4 as house warming gifts for friends who relocated to the country. These benches were a breeze to put together. After thinking it over I decided to incorporate 2x6s in place of 2x4s where I could to prevent warping. 2x6 lumber fits perfect into this construction. I've attached photos above - check 2x6 construction. the 2x4 braces below make for solid shake-free benches. I sanded and finished mine with three coats of Thompsons "Honey Gold" tint Watersealant. After this summer and winter in OK I'll report back on how well these held up. All construction so far has been 6 feet long.



You have to realize it's wood you're working with and prepare accordingly. Measure to get the most of each cut from the length wood you buy. I purchased #2 Douglas Fir - it's a bit stronger than framing lumber.

You have to be smarter than the bench...

The last review I saw said there were no instructions to put the bench together. First of all there are instructions on the box! (You have to be smarter than the bench.) Second there are 5 or 6 giant pieces that just snap together. There's no hardware no tools necessary. My 9 year old helped me put it together.



As for how well it works I haven't had any trouble with water getting in so maybe the person who couldn't figure out how to put it together put it together wrong. It has plenty of storage space for my charcoal and other grilling supplies as well as a few other patio items I wanted to store.



My only disappointment is that the storage space wasn't large enough for my swing cushions but that is fine. I mostly wanted it for my grilling supplies anyways.



It seats at least two people comfortably and seems pretty stable. Also it looks nice on the patio unlike just getting a large storage box.More detail ...

Fair construction and materials - Look out for the shipping costs!

I received this item and was a little disappointed. The floor of the bench housing is just cheap (very cheap) plywood. The lid is also plywood (although it has a cedar frame around it for looks and the top of the plywood is covered by the cushion). The thickness of the cedar is only 3/8". The cedar however is genuine and it is well shaped tongue and groove.



The cushion is not really "natural." It is darker - more of a light brown.



This is rated for "moderate" assembly skills. The unit was poorly drilled at the factory. The holes are all over the place. I had to remove some of the factory set screws and re-set them because the panels were not assembled at the factory correctly. It took about 45 minutes to assemble with a cordless screwdriver.



Before assembly I sprayed it with tung oil (the best possible preservative for wood). I mixed the tung oil with an equal amount of citrus solvent to thin it. The wood was so dry that it literally sucked up the oil. I am hoping it will help it weather as I intend to keep this outside.



It looks okay. I bought it to keep spa supplies out of doors near the spa during the summertime. It will serve that purpose.



This appears to have been designed for indoor use (mostly decoration and light storage).



It isn't worth much more than $150.00 to $200.00 (including shipping). I also hope this helps. More detail ...
